Abstract

The era following the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced enduring mental health issues for private university students. This research explores the connection between various mental health issues, specifically depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and anxiety which affecting the overall well-being in sustainable talent development among private university students in Malaysia. By examining these psychological factors as independent variables, the study aims to uncover their effects on students' emotional, academic, and social functioning. A quantitative approach was adopted, employing surveys to gather data from 160 private university students drawn from various academic programmes. Standardized assessment tools were utilized to evaluate the severity of depression, OCD, and anxiety, as well as their impact on students' well-being. The survey findings are analysed to reveal patterns and correlations between mental health disorders and overall well-being. The findings show strong positive links between depression and anxiety and their impact on students' well-being, especially in areas like academic success, social interactions, and emotional health. In contrast, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) does not significantly influence overall well-being. The research highlights the necessity for private universities to tackle these challenges by enhancing mental health initiatives. This study aims to educate policymakers and institutional leaders about the vital importance of mental health in fostering sustainable talent development, as well as advocating improved support systems to cultivate resilience and adaptability among students in the post-pandemic environment to ensure long term workforce resilience.
